Francesco e Frate Lupo. L’arte racconta la leggenda dell’incontro.

GUBBIO (PG)

27 September 2025

- 11 January 2026

DESCRIPTION

From September 27 to January 11, 2026, Gubbio will host an exhibition of extraordinary significance, dedicated to one of the most celebrated and symbolic episodes in the life of Saint Francis: the encounter with Brother Wolf. The exhibition, entitled “Francis and Brother Wolf. Art Tells the Legend of the Encounter”, is promoted by the Municipality of Gubbio, the Eugubine Church, the Civic Museum of Palazzo dei Consoli, and the Diocesan Museum of Gubbio, with the organization and support of Opera Laboratori. The initiative is under the patronage of the Permanent Citizens’ Committee “Francis in Gubbio”, the National Committee San Francesco 800, and the Italian Alpine Club, and represents the beating heart of the celebrations for the Eighth Centenary of the Saint’s death, scheduled between July 2025 and December 2026.

For the first time, the exhibition brings together more than 250 works, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, manuscripts, engravings, and illustrated books, on loan from museums, archives, libraries, and private collections in Italy and abroad. Among them are masterpieces by Gerardo Dottori and important examples of 20th-century Eugubine ceramics, alongside contemporary interpretations by artists who have reimagined the symbol of Francis and the wolf through a modern lens.
